Ashtanga Yoga makes use of your breath, its sound and rhythm, your body and your mind, in a journey that ultimately takes you inward to Truth. In the process, it will bring you greater clarity, decrease reactivity to triggers, reduce anxiety and stress, tone your muscles, minimize excess fat and a plethora of other benefits. In short, as a regular yoga practice is integrated into your life you will feel more vital, alive and present.
Mysore Style is the traditional method of practicing Ashtanga Yoga. In the beginning, the teacher is hands-on to teach you a sequence of poses called the Primary Series. At Ashtanga Yoga Room (AYR), anatomical integrity is important to preserve the health, safety and longevity of each student. Therefore, Mysore Style at AYR also involves learning each pose as it relates to your individual body needs and breath rate. Over time, the practice deepens as your sequence becomes committed to memory and your breath leads you from one pose to another. The teacher, always present and attentive, plays a more supportive role redefining poses and breath with you as your body edge changes, deepens and evolves.
In this workshop, we will first learn to ground and awaken the legs. From the legs, we will move to up to the pelvis and how it moves in relation to forward bending, backward bending and twisting. From the pelvis, we will learn how the shoulders and their supportive muscles operate to protect the neck, the shoulders themselves and so as not to subvert your core. Lastly, you will learn to breathe from the diaphragm and make use of the breath as an informative tool and as an aid for transformation.
By the end of this course, you will feel more than comfortable to join any class at AYR. Our schedule is perfect for early risers, stay at home parents, working adults with nontraditional hours and for after the workday too.
