Embodiment and Emplacement
At Ashtanga Yoga Room, we stay grounded in tradition through lineage, philosophy and theory, yet dynamically present in the now through practice — of the eight limbs.
One of the most amazing qualities of Mysore Style Ashtanga yoga is that it allows us to embody, to come from the inside in our knowledge and understanding of both theory and practice, and then it puts us into the world, oriented from our core.
We are a small family of teachers at AYR, dedicated to and invested in each other’s happiness, working the practice (or does the practice work us), and the welfare of our students. We know that by committing to Mysore Style, you are making a commitment to yourself. We do not take this lightly and we are here to support and guide you.
First, we guide you to your breathing, then through breathing into movement, then from moving into being. (Reference https://ashtangayogaroom.com/the-method/ and https://ashtangayogaroom.com/at-ayr/.)
As a reflection of its founder, Melanie Fawer, whose unique background in Ashtanga and personal ethos of action and integration permeates its offerings, AYR fosters an environment of self-inquiry, curiosity, fun and compassion that trickles down from her, to her teachers and to the students.
